Community Green Deal begins

Our delayed Community Green Deal programme kicked off in January with 12 homes receiving a whole house retrofit. It's a unique and ambitious project with average works costs of £40,500 per household and total carbon savings of 1,150 tonnes across the lifetime of the programme.

A new report by the Technology Strategy Board, launched at this year's EcoBuild conference, demonstrates household retrofit to reduce carbon emissions by over 80% is acheivable and at affordable prices with Carbon Co-op technical partners URBED leading the way in the sector.

Carbon Co-op yesterday made a presentation on our retrofit model to Ed Davey MP, Secretary of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change. Ed was in Manchester to review the eco-credentials of the new Town Hall development.

Carbon Co-op is launching a new Manchester-based programme to help owner occupiers improve the fabric of their homes, reducing utility bills and carbon emissions. To celebrate we're staging a free tour of local eco-houses, all from a double-decker, red London bus.

The Green Deal and Social Enterprise breakfast taster session

From Autumn 2012, the Green Deal will provide a mechanism to enable millions of homes in the UK to receive retrofit, insulation work with the cost of measures spread over a twenty five year period.
