SUMMARY:EcoHome Lab: Using CO2 data to quantify ventilation rate
DESCRIPTION:*** \nWe are extremely pleased to be joined by Dr. Jess Few (UCL) and Trystan Lea (Open Energy Monitor) to discuss the potential of CO2 sensing to quantify ventilation rates in domestic properties. \nJess – is now a Research Fellow specialising in UK household energy consumption\, but during her PhD she developed a method for measuring ventilation rates in occupied homes\, based on the tracer gas decay technique. As part of the research she developed algorithms to identify periods when a dwelling is unoccupied and then identify and analyse periods of CO2 decay for ventilation rate analysis – this code is all released under an open source license. \nTrystan – Is co-founder of Megni & OEM\, who not only builds a variety of tools to model\, plan and measure domestic decarbonisation but uses his own house as a case study. For the last few months Trystan has been experimenting with adding CO2 tracking to his monitoring system to track air change rates within Emoncms. He’ll take us through his results so far and how others might replicate it. \nThis is a really live area of research and exploration\, so there will be plenty of time for discusssion\, if you’re working on your own experiments please do come along and share your findings. \nIn our regular monthly slot – every second Thursday of the month – EHL is a hangout for people taking control of their home energy usage and generation.
