SUMMARY:EcoHome Lab: Calculating Metered Energy Savings (MES) from retrofit
DESCRIPTION:*** \nThis session will focus on the latest work on the development of [Metered Energy Savings](https://carbon.coop/2024/02/retrometer-project-why-metered-energy-savings/) (MES) methodologies to calculate the impact of energy efficiency interventions in the UK. MES approaches compare energy usage post-retrofit with a “counterfactual” – the energy the household *would have used* in the same period had the retrofit not happened. \nWe’re pleased to be joined by **Connor Galbraith\, Data Scientist at [Energy Systems Catapult](https://es.catapult.org.uk/project/retrometer/)** who has been leading the work on how this Counterfactual is generated in the recent [RetroMeter](https://es.catapult.org.uk/project/retrometer/) project. The work draws extensively on work done internationally via LF Energy’s [OpenEEMeter](https://lfenergy.org/projects/openeemeter/) project. \nRegular attendees will be familiar with MES approaches from our previous sessions on [CalTRACK/OpenEEmeter](https://www.meetup.com/eco-home-lab-manchester/events/282990686/) and the launch of Carbon Co-op’s own MES web tool\, [PowerShaper Tracker](https://tracker.powershaper.io/). \nConnor will be discussing: \n* How the models work\n* In what circumstances different models can be used\n* The performance (accuracy\, bias) of different models\n* Data sources and data accessibility issues for data needed for different models \n——————————————————— \nCatch up on [some of our previous sessions and presentations](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiz1gBPXWVAJ4hzg3zj72hVrXVJgWvzOG). \nEcoHome Lab is a [Carbon Co-op](https://carbon.coop/) initiative\, often working together with [OpenEnergyMonitor](https://openenergymonitor.org). \nTopics will include: \n• Home energy monitoring. \n• House energy performance assessment \n• Sensors – electricity\, gas\, temperature\, humidity\, air quality… \n• User interfaces\, dashboards \n• Smart houses and automation \n• Aggregation of data sources \n• Taking the power back! – Making better use of the surplus power we generate \n**Who is it for?** \n• Anyone with skills in physical electronics\, web development or programming who wants to use that knowledge to reduce energy and carbon!
