Jonathan Atkinson of Carbon Co-op was part of a delegation of business, local authority and social enterprise leaders to meet DECC (Dept of Energy and Climate Change) Minister Greg Barker on his recent visit to Greater Manchester.
The roundtable event, organised by Business in the Community, offered an opportunity to quiz the minister on upcoming Green Deal plans. The Minister was forthcoming on issues including stimulating household retro-fit, encouraging behavioural change and environmental aspects of the ‘big society’.
Jonathan raised concerns that feed in tariffs are being misused by farmers to fund huge field arrays, diverting resources away from household micro-generation, and although the Minister could offer no assurances at this time he did assure the meeting the issue is under review.
Whilst in Greater Manchester, Barker also officially opened the new Energy Hub at Salford University.
