Generating Success is a community renewables programme to develop four ‘Trailblazer’ projects* around rural Greater Manchester, inspire others and provide initial start-up support to new community energy enterprises.
Led by GMCVO’s Community Hubs team, in collaboration with Carbon Co-op and MERCi, it provides capacity building, project development, technical and enterprise support to ensure success, cascade learning and sustain the initiative beyond the period of project funding.
We have hosted events and workshops to share the learning and use the experience to support projects in urban areas of Greater Manchester.
The 18-month project, which began in spring 2012, is part-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe Investing in Rural Areas, and Defra is the managing authority for the fund.
Carbon Co-op have worked with URBED to deliver a series of masterclass sessions for community renewables including a session on community building retrofit.
The four Trailblazer projects are:
• Affetside Millennium Green Trust, Bury
• Ellenroad Engine House, Rochdale
• Millgate Arts Centre, Oldham
• Moss Brook Growers, Wigan
