About the job
Carbon Co-op’s work focuses on the development of new projects and services that enable citizens and communities to collectively tackle climate change. We have a strong, interdisciplinary Retrofit Team involved in a number of projects ranging from the facilitation of peer learning and knowledge exchange between householders, the development of new heat pump services and the delivery of an area based scheme. The knowledge and skills sets required to manage and deliver these ranges from soft skills such as the facilitation of knowledge exchange to highly technical design and procurement.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Project Manager, to assist in the delivery of EBENTO, a new three year EU collaborative project which looks at retrofit and specifically at Energy Performance Contracts. We’re tackling new and challenging issues so you will be comfortable taking on new skills, juggling different tasks and prioritising. You don’t need specific experience in all the areas of work but you do need to be a diligent project manager and any experience of retrofit would be of benefit.
Though the work will take place in the UK, the project will involve some foreign travel, around four international partnerships meetings a year around Europe – an exciting opportunity to learn from the experience and technical expertise of other countries and organisations.
The below describes the desired Essential, Preferred, and Useful characteristics of applicants.
i) Skills and experience
- Minimum 2 years experience of project management or project coordination.
- A Project Management qualification.
- Experience of operating within the retrofit construction sector.
- Experience of partnership working and management.
- Up to date knowledge of energy policy, in particular with regards to energy efficiency and financing.
- A higher education qualification or similar experience, demonstrating technical literacy and an understanding of general scientific or engineering concepts.
- Qualification from the Centre for Alternative Technology graduate school and/or AECB.
- Experience of Community Finance and business modelling.
- Knowledge of the basic concepts of Building Physics as they relate to domestic properties.
- Experience of overseeing or delivering European partnership projects.
- Experience of a Service Design processes.
ii) About you
- Able to plan work strategically, juggling tasks, prioritising competing aims, timeframes and capacity.
- A good problem solver with the ability to think laterally.
- Able to coordinate an interdisciplinary team or partnership to effectively deliver a project or task.
- Able to communicate effectively with project partners and stakeholders.
- Good at making presentations, an excellent verbal and written communicator, enthusiastic and engaging
- Able to demonstrate a systems thinking approach.
- Experience of a team based decision making.

This position requires you to be based in Manchester. Our office is located within the Bridge 5 Mill sustainability centre in Ancoats, close to Manchester Piccadilly. We offer flexible working and the number of days worked from the office is negotiable.
