On a sunny Monday lunchtime, the Carbon Co-op team took a stroll around the streets of Levenshulme to check in on our Area-Based Retrofit Scheme—an exciting project that’s transforming homes for a more sustainable and just future.
During our walk, we had the chance to chat with key members of the project team, including Hannah Dixon and Julie Maxwell, the scheme’s architects, from Progress in Practice, and Pauline Hodson, the site manager from B4Box and Aneaka Kellay, the schemes Resident Liaison Officer from Carbon Co-op. We also met with several householders who shared their experiences of living through the retrofit process, offering a unique glimpse into how these improvements are impacting their homes and everyday lives.
While the works are still underway, we got an up-close look at some of the cool, retrofit-specific features (if you’re a retrofit geek like us, these details are exciting!). We saw insulated cill extensions, extended rooflines, and demand-controlled ventilation systems—all designed to make these homes more energy-efficient and comfortable for the long run. And let’s not forget the stunning touches that the homeowners have chosen, like vibrant coloured render and windows —bringing style and personality to the project.
