Works are complete at the Tait's home in Chorlton South Manchester as another member achieves their whole house retrofit ambitions.
Julian and Sophie were part of our original cohort for the Community Green Deal programme. However, issues with the contractor for that scheme meant they then had to procure their works themselves. They were however able to beneft from our zero interest loan facility from that project and an architectural design specification developed by URBED.
In order to implement this specification they attended our Routes to Retrofit workshops to get a better understanding of how to procure a contractor do deliver this specification. On our advice they contacted NPS Solar and installed solar PV panels in 2015. After an exhaustive search for specialist retrofit contractors they appointed local firm Waxwing Energy, who are also part of the AECB.
Waxwing worked with the Taits to adapt and develop the design specification to their priorities and budget and the work was carried out in the Autumn of 2016.
Throughout the project Carbon Co-op have offered advice and support and made the occasional visit to check on progress. We're delighted to hear that Julian and Sophie are very pleased with the results. They particularly felt having the technical expertise of URBED to create a common understanding of the risks and technical priorities of the work. At least one Carbon Co-op member has paid a visit to the Tait's to discuss similar work on her home and get the benefit of their experience.
Hopefully we will see some monitoring data over the next few months and years.
